Well Hello There

So it's been a little while. Lots of exciting things have happened in 6 months, but I won't elaborate. Instead, I present you with:

Micheala's Favorite Books
This is quite a difficult list to compose, seeing as how much I love books. I always have. I could talk for hours about the unique beauty literature, about the curious joys of writing, the countless adventures of reading...but a simple list will have to do.

My all time favorite book. I'm usually wary of Christian fiction (mainly because I find it cliche and unrealistic) but this allegory of God's love is beautifully written and painfully soul-wrenching. And the story itself is amazing. It's one of those books that, even though you've read it 5 times, you find something new and significant each time you read it. While the subject content is pretty mature (it deals with child prostitution and some other tough issues), this book is definitely worth reading for anyone (not just girls!) older than 16.The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis are more than just great books to me; they're my childhood and my dreams. Starting when I was 3 years old, my Dad would read these books to me and my sisters at bedtime every night. When we finished, we would start another series (Little House on the Prairie was another favorite), but somehow we would always find our way back to these. Over the years, I've read this complete series close to 10 times, and they just never get old. Clear allegory, clever writing, charming characters, and of course, Aslan.Futuristic Distopia is one of my favorite genres (now that I write that, I'm not actually sure futuristic distopia an official genre, but please just play along). Out of all the great books that fall into this category (The Uglies, 1984, The Hunger Games, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451) The Giver is my favorite. Though intended to be a childrens' book, the imagery and symbolism are so powerful that it stands above the rest.

J.R.R. Tolkein is brilliant. The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are the best adventure books ever and the original definition of epic. I read these when I was about 10, and have never stopped loving the world and creatures of Middle Earth...especially the Elves! It was the truest desire of my heart for about 2 years to be an elf princess named Bronwyn who lived in a tree, fought orcs with her mad archery skills and married Faramir...scandalous, I know.I got a late start on the wonderful world of Harry Potter, but I enjoy the series immensely. While the magical world and unbelievable adventures are cool and all, what I love best about Harry Potter are the recurring themes of good vs. evil, friends, and, most importantly, family. And, might I add, that Ron and Hermione are the most amazing couple of the century! If the series was called Ron Weasley and His Fantastical Adventures with His Marvelous Family, His Love Hermione, and oh yeah, His Overly Angsty Best Friend Harry, I would be completely fine with that. Just sayin'.

That's all for today folks. Or, most likely, folk, as in the one person in the world who took the time to look at my literary preferences on this here blog. Thanks for listening :)

I Celebrate The Day

A beautiful Christmas song.

In Christ Alone

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless Babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From a life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Could ever pluck me from His hand
Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I stand

Tweaked Reality

"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, And that enables you to laugh at life's realities."
-Dr. Seuss

What I've been doing recently...

That's right! I've been disguising myself as an elf and going into public places. Its quite a bit of fun.

So this is Christmas...

And I rather like it. I hold the firm belief that this time of year tends to bring out people's true character. Which is great, but sometimes messy. But I suppose that's just life.

For me, Christmas is all about love. Love for family, friends, people who don't have love in their lives, and most importantly, the love that somehow exceeds all other love combined- the love of a savior. I wish it was Christmas all the time. not because of the material advantages and pleasures (but really, what's wrong with having lights up all year round?) but because of the love.

I'm sorry that sometimes at Christmas, I concentrate on myself and my direct surroundings instead of acknowledging the bigger picture and loving unabashedly. Christ came to love, and I want love like that, be it Christmas time or not.

The Dance of the Cucumber

Today I am dressing up as Larry the Cucumber and singing Silly Songs around my school. It should be exciting. I'm wearing a giant sombrero and wrapping myself in a green tablecloth. As an ode to the most genius show on earth, Veggie Tales. Whoever created Veggie Tales, you are my hero.

The Happiest Place on Earth...okay, second happiest: Disneyland, by law, has to come first

Dear Ribbons and Lace,
I think it is safe to say that I am completely and incandescently in love with you. Your rows and rows of never ending ribbons and flowers and bows and tulle and many other beautiful things make me happy inside...and on the outside, too. I love that you have an aisle dedicated to polka dotted things. And another to glitter-y things. You carry ribbons with pandas on them, and ice cream cones, and volleyballs, and dinosaurs...it's basically any girl's dream come true. So thank you for making my day with your cheery goodness and dazzling prettiness. I appreciate it.
Love, Michaela
P.S. I do believe I would like to be buried underneath you store. Specifically in aisle 3, next to the sparkles. Is that weird? I choose not to think so.

Ode to NCIS

Dear NCIS:
I love you. A lot.
You somehow manage to combine wonderful characters, good humor, medically correct autopsies, and crime-fighting awesomeness, as well as the occasional hostage situation, with talent and taste.
And it doesn't hurt that you have a character who is Israeli Mossad. Because that's also pretty cool.
Just one thing...exactly how does Gibbs manage to get his boat out of his basement?
Love, Michaela
P.S. Thank you for keeping me sane on those long days when I'm sick and can't do anything but lay on the couch and sip water. Somehow, I think it helps my migraines get better.
